Menstrual cramps have always been a bother among women especially to those who have the worst cramps during their cycle. Not a plague but a blessing in disguise to notify us of motherhood is why we menstruate. If it’s unavoidable to not have menstrual cramps, then any measure could be implemented to getting rid of them. Research has it that there are some certain foods that help relieve menstrual cramps. A dietary change can go a long way to relieving your pain

Fruits and vegetables

Foods with iron content are also effective in reducing pain. Foods like; sardines, spinach, oysters, cereal, tofu, liver, beans, dark chocolate, etc. During menstruation, we lose more iron in the body system but with iron, the cramps would be cast down.

Salmon, chia seed, flaxseed, sardines, tuna, walnuts, soybean, etc contain fatty acids that help to reduce inflammation in the body thereby easing the monthly cycle. You can go on your period without worries or discomfort. 

There are other nutrients that help relieve pain like magnesium, vitamins, calcium, etc. Avoid these foods for cramp relief which include; sodium, sugar, highly processed foods, gaseous foods, and baked foods.

You can use a hot water bottle or a heating pad to get rid of cramps. Apply to your lower abdomen for fast relief. Research has it that taking on heat goes a long way to reduce the pain. In the absence of a hot water bottle or heating pad, have a hot bath or use a hot towel. Heat therapy is as effective as the counter drugs. 

Drink more water

The functionality of water in the body can never be underestimated because it carries a lot of qualities. Water helps to ease the blood flow giving away the solidity. Drink more water on your cycle to avoid the cramps. Being hydrated helps your body retain water thereby resulting in zero bloating ground. Eat foods with water content like celery, watermelon, lettuce, cucumber, and berries. Also, hot water is a better choice for easing your pain. 

Knead out the pain

Massaging affected areas; the abdomen, stomach sides, and the back with essential oils goes a long way to reducing and relieving the pain. It is advisable to have someone knead out the pain for you; could be a friend or better still, a professional. You will feel much better during or after the procedure. 

Include herbs to your diet

In as much as herbs are natural ingredients used in meals, you have to be careful using them so as not to attract other side effects to your body. Consume them as a whole or as a meal supplement during your period for pain relief. Reduce muscle spasms and swellings by taking herbs like chamomile tea, pycnogenol, fennel seeds, dill, cinnamon, ginger, etc. 

Make a dietary change if needed for a cramp freecycle and follow the aforementioned ways to getting rid of them. Note that you can visit the hospital for over the counter drugs to help ease the pain.
